Charlie Don’t Surf, based on true life events, is a black comedy about Axel, a dropped out Chemistry graduate, and his journey out of addiction into redemption, told through the fractured perspective of himself as the unreliable narrator – BUT – it’s not about snorting, sniffing or spiking, it’s not about wheeling, dealing, conning or kiting and it’s not about death by overdose, Hep C or HIV. It’s about the grotesque and the bizarre. Axel descends into a netherworld of paranoia and madness which leads him not only to the terrifying realisation that he, himself, is the creator, the Keyser Söze of this grotesque nightmare, but also, ultimately, to his own redemption.
